Oscar Niemeyer
Oscar Niemeyer nasce a Rio de Janeiro nel 1907. Si laurea alla scuola Nazionale di Belle Arti di Rio de Janeiro nel 1934 e in seguito si unisce ad un gruppo di architetti brasiliani che collabora con Le Corbusier alla costruzione del nuovo Ministero dell'Educazione e della Sanità di Rio, esperienza formativa per il suo futuro lavoro. Niemeyer proseguirà la collaborazione con Le Corbusier per la realizzazione del Palazzo delle Nazioni Unite di New York. Le forme fluide di Niemeyer offrono un'alternativa poetica alle linee dritte e agli angoli retti dello stile internazionale, tendenza dominante dell'architettura moderna europea negli anni ‘30. Nel 1942, Niemeyer realizza una serie di edifici ricreativi che s'ispirano ampiamente all'espressivo stile architettonico barocco brasiliano.
